Baldwin Wallace University IT's first responsibility is to see that our students have access to the technology and the support they need to successfully advance their education. Baldwin Wallace IT Support is making the health and safety of the BW Community priority, so we are providing virtual support appointments. Students can select a virtual appointment to have software installed on their personal computers or troubleshoot software issues that are not hardware related. Students can also make reservations for in-person visits with an IT Support Analyst.

Software Installation

Make a request to have Microsoft Office, Symantec Endpoint Protection, JMP Professional or the VMWare Horizon Client virtually installed on your personal computer.

Software Troubleshooting

Make a request to troubleshoot a problem with your Blackboard, Collaborate, MyBW, MyRecords or even your virtual textbook.

Make a Reservation

Make a reservation with IT Support for in-person service. For your safety, IT Support is taking reservations to provide IT Support in Ritter Library.

  • How do I connect an iPhone/iPad to the BW_Stinger Wi-Fi Network

    Follow these directions are for iPads with iOS 10.2.1 or higher and iPhone 6S or newer. Older devices cannot connect to the BW Wireless network.

    1. 1. Tap the Settings icon and expand the “Wi-Fi” menu.
      • a. From the list of wi-fi networks, tap “BW_Wireless” to join.
    2. 2. Selecting this network should prompt your device to open an internet browser where you will begin the BW Wireless Setup process.
    3. 3. Enter your BW UserName and Password. Tap Sign On.
    4. 4. Tap the “Click here to continue” message. DO NOT CLICK THE “DONE” BUTTON!
    5. 5. If the correct device is not listed, change your device model and tap “Start.”
    6. 6. Read the instructions for downloading & installing the BW Network Certificate and tap the “Launch Apple Profile and Certificate Installation Now” link.
    7. 7. A warning message will appear. This certificate is safe. Tap “Allow” to proceed.
    8. 8. To install the Cisco Security Certificate that was downloaded to your device, tap the Settings icon and expand the “General” menu.
      • a. Scroll down and expand the “Profile” menu.
      • b. Choose the Cisco Systems profile services link and click “Install.” If you receive another warning, disregard it and click “Install.”
      • c. The “BW_Stinger” profile is now installed. Tap “Done” to exit.
    9. 9. Open the “Settings” icon and expand the “Wi-Fi” menu again.
    10. 10. Tap the “Information icon next to “BW_Wireless and click on “Forget This Network.
      • a. If you fail to “forget” this registration network, it may cause issues.
  • These directions are for all personally-owned Windows10 computers. Computers with older operating systems cannot connect to the BW Wireless network.

    1. 1. Swipe the screen to open and choose the “Settings” app.
      • a. Tap the “Connections” link.
    2. 2. Tap “Wi-Fi” and then look under the “Available Networks” heading.
    3. 3. Select the “BW_Wireless” network to register your phone.
    4. 4. Once connected to the network, your phone will attempt to open an internet browser where you will begin the BW Wireless Setup process.
    5. 5. Enter your BW UserName and Password. Tap “Sign On.”
    6. 6. Your device should be listed. If the device listed is incorrect, change it.
    7. 7. Tap “Start.”
    8. 8. Read the instructions for downloading and installing the Cisco Setup Assistant before proceeding. The instructions will disappear and not be available after.
      • a. Tap “I am ready to proceed.”
    9. 9. Open the Google Play store.
      • a. Search for the “Cisco Network Setup Assistant” app.
      • b. Tap the Install button to download.
      • c. Open the app and tap the “Start” button.
    10. 10.You will be prompted to enter your BW username and password again.
      • a. Tap “Sign On.”
      • b. Once the account setup is complete, tap “Continue.”
      • c. If you receive security warnings, tap “Allow.”
    11. 11. The Cisco Network Setup Assistant will begin installing on your phone.
      • a. Once complete, a successful connection message will appear.
      • b. Tap “Exit” to complete the device setup.
    12. 12. You are now connected to the secure “BW_Stinger” network.
    13. 13. Next, your device needs to forget the “BW_Wireless” network.
    14. 14. Open the “Settings” icon again.
      • a. Tap “Connections.”
      • b. Tap “Wi-Fi.”
      • c. Touch and hold “BW_Wireless.”
      • d. Tap “Forget Network.”
    15. 15. The “BW_Wireless” network is exclusively for registering devices. Failing to forget this network on your phone may cause issues.
  • These directions are for all personally-owned Windows 10 computers. Computers with older operating systems cannot connect to the BW Wireless network.

    1. 1. Click the Wireless icon on the taskbar (lower right corner of your computer).
    2. 2. Select “BW_Wireless” from the list. (This network is for device registration only.)
    3. 3. The device registration process should automatically launch and download the Cisco Network Setup Assistant software.
    4. 4. Locate the software. The file may be displayed in the lower left corner of your screen or you may need to look in your Downloads folder.
      • a. Click to launch and complete the setup process.
    5. 5. You should now be connected to the new “BW_Stinger” network.
    6. 6. Click on the Windows Start button in the lower left corner.
    7. 7. Click on the Settings icon.
    8. 8. Select “Network & Internet” > Click “Wi-Fi” > Click “Manage known networks.”
    9. 9. Click on the “BW_Wireless” network; Click to delete this profile.
      • a. If you fail to “forget” this registration network, it may cause issues.
  • These directions are for Macbook computers running version 10.13.1 or higher. Older devices cannot connect to the BW Wireless network.

    1. 1. Click the Wireless icon on the taskbar (upper right corner of your computer).
    2. 2. Select “BW_Wireless” from the list. (This network is for device registration only.)
    3. 3. The device registration process should automatically open Safari to launch and download the Cisco Network Setup Assistant software.
    4. 4. Locate the .dmg file in your Downloads folder.
      • a. Open the file to launch and complete the setup process.
    5. 5. You should now be connected to the new “BW_Stinger” network.
    6. 6. Next, click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen.
    7. 7. Select “System Preferences” from the menu.
    8. 8. Click the “Network” icon to display a list of wireless networks.
    9. 9. Choose “BW_Wireless” from the list and click the minus sign to delete it.
      • a. If you fail to “forget” this registration network, it may cause issues.
  • Guests of Baldwin Wallace can use the Guest Wi-Fi Network. This is an open network that does not require a password. It has very limited bandwidth and no access to BW systems. It is intended for temporary access to the internet and email.

    1. 1. Depending on your device, open your wireless access settings and choose the “BW_Guest” open wi-fi network.
    2. 2. Read and agree to the end-user agreement to connect.
  • Connecting a Windows 10 Computer to the “BW_Stinger” Wi-Fi Network These directions are for Win10 computers owned by BW and issued to faculty/staff.

    1. 1. Bring your computer to the BW campus.
    2. 2. Connect your computer to the docking station in your office. It must be plugged into the wired wall connection with an ethernet cable.
    3. 3. Turn on your computer. Your updates should launch and run automatically. All campus-wide ‘group policy’ settings should update, including transitioning you to the new wireless network, “BW_Stinger.”
      • a. The amount of time this takes is dependent on how many updates need installed. Remember to run your updates regularly!
    4. 4. Once updated, you can use your computer wirelessly anywhere on campus.
