Virtual Desktop (labs.bw.edu) Overview

Virtual Desktop service provides current BW students, faculty, and staff with remote access to their BW network drives and BW’s general pool of lab software from ‘virtually’ anywhere via your home computer, laptop, or a mobile device.

Access to BW lab software

Print to a local/personal printer

  • Launch a web browser (Internet Explorer, Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox)
  • Visit labs.bw.edu
  • Select the VMWare Horizon View HTML Access icon
  • Provide your Baldwin Wallace Login Credentials

  • Students: Select the GeneralPool icon

    Faculty & Staff: Select the FacStaffPool icon


  • A new desktop environment will appear that is connected to BW servers.
    To see the list of all available programs, click the Start button and then select All Programs. To access your BW network drives, select the Start button and then select Computer.
  • Launch a web browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox)
  • Visit labs.bw.edu
  • Select the Install VMware Horizon View Client icon.
  • An installation wizard will begin installing the VMWare Horizon View Client on your computer. Follow the instructions and click Next with prompted.
  • You will be asked for a default View Connection Server, enter labs.bw.edu and click next
  • Complete the installation process by clicking Next and then Finish when prompted
  • Your computer will need to be rebooted before you can launch the VMWare View Client
  • After restarting your computer click the labs.bw.edu icon to begin
  • Provide your Baldwin Wallace Login Credentials

  • Students: Select the GeneralPool icon

    Faculty & Staff: Select the FacStaffPool icon


  • A new desktop environment will appear that is connected to BW servers.
    To see the list of all available programs, click the Start button and then select All Programs. To access your BW network drives, select the Start button and then select Computer.

1) Go to https://labs.bw.edu and click on the “Install VMware Horizon View Client” icon.

2) In the download folder (lower right corner), find the VMware file and double-click it to install.

3) Agree to the terms; Drag the VMware Client icon into the Applications folder.

4) If it is not automatically displayed, go to the Applications folder; find and open the VMware client.

5) Click “Continue” to start remote desktop USB and printing services.

6) Enter your MAC administrator computer name and password and click “OK.”

7) Double-click “Add Server” and enter labs.bw.edu in the Server Name field.

8) Log in with your with your BW username and password.

9) Students: Click on the “GeneralPool” icon.
  Faculty & Staff: Click on the “FacStaffGenPool” icon.

10) A new desktop environment will appear that is connected to BW servers.
      To see the list of all available programs, click the Start button and then “All Programs.” To access your BW network   drives, click the Start button and then “Computer.”

11) To log off, click the Start button and select “Log Off” to return to your normal desktop.

12)  For future access to the application following your initial download, you will find the VMware client in your  Application folder.

 

NOTE: If you download and install the full-feature client and see this screen:

Click on “Add Server” and enter labs.bw.edu in the server name field to proceed.
