New Faculty, Staff, and Student MFA setup:
NOTE: IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU COMPLETE STEPS 1 & 2 ON A COMPUTER
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an extra layer of security for your Baldwin Wallace and Microsoft 365 accounts. For example, you first enter your password and, when prompted, you also type a dynamically generated verification code provided by an authenticator app or sent to your phone.
Your Baldwin Wallace University Account has multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled automatically. MFA is used to authorize access to your BW Email, the BW Virtual Desktops, all Microsoft Office 365 products, and more. The instructions below will guide you through setting up your user account to use it.
STEP 1. After configuring your password for the first time, navigate to bw.edu in a new browser window and sign in with your BW credentials:
STEP 2. You will be prompted with a prompt similar to the one above; press Next to continue.
STEP 3. On your mobile phone, please download the Microsoft Authenticator App from your mobile phone's app Store and follow the instructions on the screens.
STEP 4. After scanning the QR code in the Microsoft Authenticator App, navigate to ms/mfasetup in a new browser window.
STEP 5. Under Security Info, Click Add sign-in method and select Phone.
STEP 6. Enter your mobile phone number, and you then have the option to receive a 6-digit text message, or a phone call that will ask you to approve.
STEP 7. You should have two methods configured for your account. If you want to add a third method, click on Add sign-in method again.
STEP 8. Click on the Set default sign-in method and choose a method you would like to use as a primary method of authentication. MFA will be used to verify your identity when signing into Office products, or other BW website resources.
